DPCP 101: A Foundational Course for Program Managers

Course Introduction

The Diabetes Prevention and Control Programs 101 course will provide an introduction to the work of state Diabetes Prevention and Control Programs (DPCPs) under the current Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). The course is appropriate for new DPCP managers or those staff interested in a "refresher" on the basics of DPCP work and relevant CDC requirements and expectations. This course will provide an overview of the CDC's National Diabetes Program Framework and an introduction to the three intervention focus areas included in the FOA: 1) Social, Environmental, and Policy interventions, 2) Health Communication, and 3) Health Care Systems interventions. In addition, it will emphasize the importance of building a strong public health infrastructure and will introduce participants to the topics of diabetes surveillance and data analysis, partnership development, program planning, and grants/fiscal management. Finally, it will familiarize participants with resources available at the CDC and within the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors' (NACDD) Diabetes Council for program support and technical assistance.

The course will be presented in a modular format and will be led by staff from the CDC's Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT). Please be sure to review all of the background reading before beginning the course.
